The built environment has shifted from a static backdrop for human activity to a dynamic and reactive component in daily life.  Emerging paradigms of design foster a responsive dialectic between architecture and its occupants. A long-standing tradition within the Department of Architectural Science’s Digital Tools course, at Ryerson University, calls upon students to employ their digital fabrication, physical computing, and creative skills in the prototyping of interactive installations and responsive environments. These modest proposals are responses to the growing integration of subtle technologies in architectural design. Many of these projects form developmental basis for more robust initiatives at a greater scale and scope both in Toronto and internationally.
